Holiday Message to Millinocket and East Millinocket

To our new friends and neighbors in Millinocket and East Millinocket,

Thank you for your incredibly warm reception. The “Welcome Cate Street” and “Welcome Great Northern Paper” signs that popped up all over town made us feel appreciated and bolstered our confidence that Millinocket and East Millinocket will once again be prosperous. 

Everyone at the mill has worked very hard to restart production and the successful rebirth of Great Northern Paper has been a true team effort of which we can all be proud. We strongly believe that the century-old legacy of fine papermaking is worth preserving. More than this, we take very seriously our responsibility to the families of hundreds of employees who have come back to work at GNP. Our plan is to invest wisely in the infrastructure and incorporate proven business practices and operational efficiencies. Together, through these efforts, we will secure our place in the market for years to come.

In addition, as part of Cate Street Capital’s commitment to creating jobs through new sustainable technologies, this coming year we will be building and installing equipment in Millinocket for a manufacturing business called Thermogen Industries. Thermogen will utilize a new, proprietary technology to produce Torrefied Wood, a biofuel that is a clean-burning coal supplement. Since the production of Torrefied Wood relies on the same raw materials as papermaking, this new business will expand our position in the forest products industry and help secure the long-term future of our operations within the Katahdin region. We’re pleased and excited to let you know that Thermogen will be creating additional new jobs late in 2012 that will complement Great Northern papermaking.
