Bio-Coal Manufacturing
Thermogen Industries is a multi-faceted manufacturing company. Utilizing cutting edge technology and vastly renewable resources, we produce cleaner bio-based coal products for energy generation and commercial applications.
Torrefied Wood
Thermogen Torrefaction involves changing the properties of wood using microwaving, not heating. Torrefaction is a mild pyrolysis process that improves the fuel properties of the biomass. Microwaving biomass creates a torrefied product that has increased calorific value (the amount of heat released by a unit weight or unit volume of a substance during complete combustion) and a reduced water uptake.
Aurora Black
Thermogen's family of renewable bio-coals. With sustainable sources of biomass like established woodsheds, forests [beetle-kill, thinning, rights-of-way clearing] and future, dedicated biomass, bio-coal is a superior renewable fuel product. It stands far ahead of fossil coal when considering reduced emissions, sustainability, and lower planetary impact.
Plays Well with Coal
Thermogen Industries' bio-coal reduces emissions and is superior to fossil coal in nearly every way, but still retains many similarities which make it interchangeable. Aurora Black clean fuels offer the user options to optimize performance and cost, as well as reduce emissions and impact on the environment. Aurora Black solid fuels are engineered to function seamlessly alongside other solid fuels, or by themselves, enabling the customer to tailor a solution to their specific emissions or output requirements.

Problem
Standard fossil coal burning produces extremely high emissions, noxious chemicals, and is bad for the environment. Coal is also a non-renewable resource based on dwindling supplies of fossil material. More solutions are needed for our country and planet to be free from fossil fuels. |
Solution
Our bio-coal family, beginning with the launch of Aurora Black torrefied biomass pellets, is a renewable and CO2 neutral coal alternative. Bio-coal produces lower sulfur emissions, .1% compared to standard coal at .5%. Aurora Black has no mercury, lead, or arsenic emissions like coal does, and boasts a low (1% & 3%) moisture and ash rate compared to coal's (9% each). |
Result
At Thermogen, we work with today's top industry leaders and scientists to continuously improve and refine our green and environmentally sustainable line of products. We value our close association with local, state and federal stakeholders and enjoy their support in achieving a mutually beneficial result for our customers and the planet. |
